EPFA Playtime Policy

Overview

Our number one goal is to provide an experience for our youth that is full of growth and enjoyment.  In doing so, we all need to keep these questions as a focus:

Coaches

  • Is the athlete developing as a player and a teammate?
  • Is the athlete being provided with opportunities to participate in all training regardless of skill or talent?
  • Is the athlete being treated fairly by both coaches and teammates?
  • Does the athlete feel safe in the environment we have created?
  • Is the athlete being put in a situation to succeed as well situations to test growth?
  • Will this athlete return for another season?

Athletes

  • Am I respectful towards the coaches and teammates?
  • Do I follow directions?
  • Do I work hard and show up on time?
  • Is football my priority during the football season?

Parents

  • As a parent, am I showing adequate support to the volunteer coaches?
  • Am I involved in reinforcing what is asked of my child during the season?
  • Am I committed to ensuring my player will be present and on time for all practice/games?

Playtime

We are a developmental association that strives to provide equal opportunity for all players throughout a season.  Please keep in mind that the biggest opportunity for development is in practice.  Games are more of a measuring stick of where your player is at.  Our playtime rules are driven by our league association (Southwest Metro Football League SWML), which aims more at minimums.  We are aligned with their thought process.  In the younger ages it is more equally distributed, while as you progress to 8th grade the minimums begin to be lower.  The reason for this change is because when they get to high school (9th grade) there is no minimum guarantee.

With that said, we have allowed our coaches to have some flexibility in certain situations.  None of this should involve Player A is better than Player B.

  • Parent informs us of disciplinary actions at school.  Example, if a player is suspended from school, and we don't feel they should be able to participate in sports for that day.
  • Player decides to go to another sport during football season which results in missed practices and/or games.
  • A player is disrespectful to coaches or is not a good teammate.
  • A player refuses to play certain positions in games.
  • A coach feels that the player is not healthy enough to safely compete.
  • A player well into the season does not understand the plays and poses a risk to himself and other players getting hurt (older ages).
  • Roster size may also make it impossible to hit minimum playtime.
